The majority did not approve Democratic Party’s request for the establishment of an investigative commission for the Port of Durrës. Among other things, for this matter the first session will be held in the third week of January.
The Chairman of the Parliamentary Group of the Socialist Party, Niko Peleshi, argued that the opposition’s request is outside the powers of the Assembly and contradicts the role of the Constitutional Court, which is expected to examine the legality of the procedures in January.
According to Peleshi, the establishment of an investigative commission in this case exceeds the competences of the Assembly and creates a precedent that violates the controlling space of the Constitutional Court. He added that the procedures for the project were approved with full parliamentary control and that the election period limits the functioning of such commissions.
The head of the DP parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, also reacted to this decision, on the social network “X”, where he stated that the majority’s rejection of the creation of the commission is clear evidence that the project does not serve the interests of the citizens.
“Those in charge of this affair will bear full responsibility, no matter how hard they try, to reject the parliamentary investigation, contrary to the Constitution and political vote,” he writes.
