Many Albanian citizens, residents of the Rajca village, have raised concerns about the insufficient drinking water supply, especially during the hot days of August, a problem that according to them has been going on for more than a month.

They say that their lives have been severely hampered by the water shortage.

“There is nothing we can do! We have bought single-use plastic plates, because we do not have water to wash the dishes. Our children came to visit from Greece and they had to leave the country with their laundry unwashed,” argues one of the citizens.

“There is no water, we don’t have access to drinking water either,” another citizen says worryingly.

In the village of Sutaj alone there are 130 families suffering the lack of water in their houses.

Migrants that have come to visit their homeland say that they do not even have water to take a shower.

Although in the village a brand-new water supply was built, with an estimated value of 6 million euros investment throughout the years, residents say that there is still no tap water in their homes.

However, Ylli Aka, head of the Water Supply and Sewerage system in Prrenjash, dismisses the claims of the residents saying that the supply system is not functioning properly due to the draughts in the area.

“Residents of this village have had a scheduled access to tap water for a minimum of two to three weeks, and this is due to the decrease of the source inflows from where the water is taken,” Mr. Alla explains.
