The former president of the European Commission and the former prime minister of Italy, Romano Prodi, declared that the countries of the Western Balkans should join the European Union as soon as possible and the process should not continue to drag on.

In an exclusive interview for Euronews Albania, Prodi said that when he was in charge of the European Commission, the union was expanded by 10 countries at the same time.

“If you want to know my opinion, I’m very angry. Because such historical decisions should be taken quickly and the message that there is a friendship between the two parties should be given and then move forward. When I was in charge of the EC, we expanded the EU by 10 countries at once. There were those who were not at the same level of progress, but the historians said that if we did not act at that moment, Europe would go worse”, he emphasized.
