Albania ranks 87th in the World Justice Project Global Rule of Law Index, placing it among the countries actively working to improve institutional performance, strengthen the rule of law, and increase public trust in the legal system.
According to the Rule of Law Index, Albania is ranked 87th out of 142 countries worldwide, based on the extent to which the rule of law is experienced in citizens’ everyday lives and reflected in the functioning of state institutions.
The assessment is based on eight key factors, including constraints on government powers, transparency and open governance, protection of fundamental rights, public order and security, and the effectiveness of civil and criminal justice systems. The data indicate that Albania demonstrates stability in terms of public order and security, while its legal and institutional framework continues to strengthen.
One of the areas where the country still requires improvement is the absence of corruption. However, this challenge is not unique to Albania, as other countries in the region have recorded similar developments, creating room for gradual progress in strengthening the rule of law.
The report highlights that reforms undertaken in recent years—particularly within the justice system—have laid more solid foundations for improving the enforcement of the law in the country.
