The President of PR, Fatmir Mediu, called on NATO member countries in the Balkans to work together to prevent a possible conflict, instigated by Russia.
Mediu, who represents the Assembly of Albania in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, held this position during the Organization’s Annual Session in Bucharest.
He noted Albania’s pro-Ukraine stance.
“As a NATO member country, we stood by our allies and I hope that the NATO Summit in Washington will bring more fruitful cooperation in support of Ukraine, not only to build their defense, but to win the fight against evil,” said Mediu at the Annual Session of the OSCE in Bucharest.
Also, congressman Joe Wilson, Chairman of the Helsinki Committee in the American Congress, in support of Mr. Mediu’s position, requests more attention for the Balkans.
With the clarity that Russia’s aggression is not only concentrated in Ukraine, Mr. Mediu raised the concern of the action of Russia and its allies in the Balkans through hybrid war, aiming to destabilize the region. “The situation in Moldova proves that Russia’s goal is not only Ukraine. The countries of the Balkans are strongly influenced by the hybrid war from Russia, China, and Iran, which try to fuel new and dormant conflicts. The situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the situation in Montenegro, the situation in the North of Kosovo requires more attention and participation of the OSCE and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.”- said Fatmir Mediu, proposing cooperation in the region as the best solution, especially between Albania, North Macedonia and Montenegro.
