Albanian tenor Saimir Pirgu has made a triumphant return to Naples’ “San Carlo” theater in a collaboration with renowned director Ferzan Özpetek. Together, they brought Giacomo Puccini’s opera, “Madama Butterfly”, to the stage.
The Italian media hailed this rendition of “Butterfly” as unforgettable.
In the opera, Pirgu took on the role of Pinkerton, sharing the stage with American soprano Ailyn Pérez.

Notably, this marks Saimir Pirgu’s second collaboration with director Ferzan Özpetek at “San Carlo”.
Özpetek, internationally recognized for his cinematic artistry, portrayed Butterfly not as a helpless victim but as a resolute and self-assured woman in this production.
Overseeing the orchestral and choral arrangements was Dan Ettinger, conducting the ensemble of “San Carlo”.
Established in 1737, it holds the distinction of being the oldest theater in Europe and continues to be a vibrant hub of artistic activity, boasting a more extensive repertoire than any other Italian theater.
“Madama Butterfly”, an opera first introduced in 1904, has ceaselessly captivated the hearts of melodrama enthusiasts.
