Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha reacted immediately following the Fier court’s decision to release former DP MP Ervin Salianji.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday from the Democratic Party headquarters, Berisha accused Prime Minister Edi Rama and Socialist MP Fatmir Xhafaj, claiming that Salianji served a politically motivated prison sentence for denouncing Xhafaj’s brother.
Berisha stated that Salianji’s imprisonment was a personal responsibility of Rama and Xhafaj, whom he accused of ordering and delaying the court’s decision by six weeks.
“I strongly condemn once again the political imprisonment of MP Ervin Salianji by Edi Rama and Fatmir Xhafaj — the main leaders of the criminal organization of the narco-state. Ervin Salianji was unlawfully and unconstitutionally held in prison for 9 months, solely for denouncing Geron Xhafaj as a key drug trafficker in the Vlora district, who was wanted in Milan.
His imprisonment aimed to suppress the truth that Edi Rama, Fatmir Xhafaj, and Geron Xhafaj were leading and benefiting from drug trafficking routes from Vlora to Italy.
Naturally, Salianji’s detention — without any wrongdoing — is a direct personal responsibility of Edi Rama and Fatmir Xhafaj. Today’s court ruling was delayed by more than six weeks, again on their orders, in a shameful and vindictive act,” Berisha declared.
