As the year-end holidays approach, the number of maritime crossings increases significantly.

At the Port of Durrës, double ferry sailings connecting the two sides of the Adriatic Sea are starting in order to cope with the increased flow of passengers and vehicles.

From December 18 until just before Christmas, ferries will operate with “double runs,” focusing mainly on inbound passenger traffic. Double sailings will also take place during the first days of the new year, when the flow is expected to be higher on departures.

According to the Captain of the Port of Durrës, Tauland Allka, to handle the rising inbound and outbound traffic, the Border Police will operate 24 counters for document checks.

“Today the system of double sailings has started. These are four intensive days during which the Durrës Port Authority is operating with 24 counters. All measures have been taken to ensure the smooth management of the flow. We expect an increase of around 10%, mainly compatriots living in Europe who have chosen to spend the holidays in Albania and Kosovo,” said Tauland Allka, Captain of the Port.

The year-end holidays coincide with the period when many Albanian emigrants living and working in European countries return home to spend the holidays with their families.
