The Serb List Vice President Igor Simić declared that with the swearing in of the new mayor of North Mitrovica from Vetëvendosje, “the occupation of the north has officially begun and will end when Serbs decide”.

Simić gave Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti a deadline until June 1st “to stop the repression, expropriation, arrest, persecution and attacks on Serbs”.

He added that if this continues, “the Serb population will protect itself by all means”, however, not explaining what these means would be.

In a press conference held this Friday, Simić said that the Serb List has managed to remain calm and refrain people from not reacting to the appointment of “a false leader”.

His reaction comes after Erden Atić was sworn in front of the Communal Assembly of North Mitrovica, a solemn procedure to take the duty of mayor.

In the session, Atić also appointed the deputy mayor of the municipality, Katarina Adjancić, coming from the Serb community. Atić declared that he will work with all citizens without differentiating.

The three other mayors will not be sworn in this Friday. According to the law, they have 30 days to assume duty by taking the oath after election results are validated, otherwise they lose their mandate.
