At the initiative of the Serb List, the largest Serbian party in Kosovo which enjoys the support of Belgrade, a petition was launched on Monday in North Mitrovica against the construction of bridges over the Ibar River.

The foundation stones were laid on July 1, in the presence of Kosovo’s acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti.

The Government of Kosovo allocated around three million euros for the construction of the two bridges – one for pedestrians and the other for vehicles – and the works are expected to be completed in the autumn.

Kurti said the aim of the project is to connect North Mitrovica, which has a Serb majority population, with South Mitrovica, where the majority of residents are Albanian.

He also said the Government is committed to “greater communication, circulation, cooperation, and exchange between the North and the South.”
