Several thousand opposition supporters in Belgrade repeated their call for last year’s parliamentary and local elections to be annulled.
The populist Serbian Progressive Party claimed victory in December, but opposition leaders accuse it of taking advantage of media control, President Vučić’s influence and vote-buying.
“This is the first protest after the interruption due to the New Year and Christmas. Deputy Marinika Tepić spoke to the citizens on behalf of the list Serbia Against Violence, which was on strike due to the lack of recognition of the election results. The organizers say that these protests are being held because of vote theft and other irregularities and demand that the elections be canceled at all levels”, said Ana Mihaljčić, Euronews.
The opposition coalition also seeks international support, arguing that if it loses this battle there will be no other elections.
“What made me smile, apart from your presence at the protest, is that our gatherings were worth it. Yesterday I received good news from Europe, from the European family, that the debates about the stolen elections in Serbia will start in the European Parliament”, – said Marinika Tepić, Serbia Against Violence.
For his part, President Vučić rejected the criticism of the opposition, accusing the organizers of the protests of trying to destabilize the country.
