Posters with the colors of the Serbian flag and the message “We are coming for Christmas” were displayed in the four municipalities of northern Kosovo on Tuesday.

Kosovo Police told Radio Free Europe (REL) that, after consultation with the prosecutor, it was decided not to investigate the case, as “there is no case”.

Orthodox Christmas is celebrated on January 7.

The appearance in the north of such postcards or graffiti with messages calling for the return of the Serbian Army to Kosovo or calls for resistance to the Government of Kosovo is not a new thing.

The police have so far investigated these cases, but the public has not been informed if they know who is behind them.

At the beginning of June, a pamphlet appeared with the portrait of the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, with the message: “Supreme Commander, we are waiting for you.”

Earlier, in February, unknown persons left leaflets on the buildings of North Mitrovica calling for resistance, which were preceded by graffiti inscriptions such as, “When the army returns to Kosovo, the Northern Brigade lives”.

The Government of Kosovo declared the “Northern Brigade” and “Civil Defense” terrorist organizations at the end of June 2023, due to the belief that its members participated in various attacks on the Kosovo Police.

Also, ten days before the attack in Banjska in September 2023, a graffiti with the colors of the Serbian flag and the inscription “When the army returns to Kosovo” appeared in North Mitrovica.

An armed group of Serbs participated in that attack in the north of Kosovo, where a Kosovar policeman was killed.

The responsibility for the attack was taken by Milan Radoicic, a former politician from Kosovo, who is on the black list of the United States.

Otherwise, the Northern Brigade has started writing graffiti with messages like “Don’t worry, we are here, we are waiting” and similar since November 2022, when members of the Serbian community left the institutions of Kosovo in the north, at the initiative of the Serbian List.

The north of Kosovo during the last two years has been involved in high tensions due to the efforts of the Government of Prime Minister Albin Kurti to extend the authority in that part of the country inhabited by a majority of Serbs.

Some of the measures taken in this direction are: the closure of Serbian institutions in Kosovo, the removal of the Serbian dinar and the banning of Serbian license plates for cities in Kosovo.

The international community has criticized some of these actions of the Kosovo government, arguing that “uncoordinated and unilateral” steps can increase tensions on the ground.
