At a time when Durrës is expected to register a record number of tourists for this summer season, nearly 30 thousand cubic meters of dirty water, coming out of the city’s homes and businesses in one day, will now be poured into the sea without being filtered.

Such a situation comes after the pollution created in the sewage treatment plant in Shënavlash.

Hydrocarbon residues in significant quantities have caused one of the biggest pollutions.

“We are talking about irregular waste. We are dealing with an extraordinary situation, we are facing a fact that the main impact goes to the environment but also to the population, without mentioning that the damage to the plant is a very large cost”, – Olsi Gracen, director of the treatment plant.

The waste is thought to have been carelessly dumped by a business and then moved through the city’s sewage system, ending up at the treatment plant.

“To avoid serious damage to this plant, the work in it has been stopped, while the investigations have started to discover the perpetrators,” said Euronews Albania journalist Kloida Gjuzi.

For this purpose, the leaders have notified the National Inspectorate of Territory Protection, the National Environment Agency, as well as the State Police.
