A high number of tourists continues to be registered in Gjirokastra, making it necessary to maintain orientation signage for local and foreign visitors.
Along the “Culture Monument” objects, archaeological sites, natural and touristic values, signs are placed, which orient the visitors, making the guide in the stone city and its surroundings more pleasant.
“Vertical and horizontal signage is essential in order for local and foreign tourists to go to their destination by being informed not only through maps but also signs, therefore, it is a great necessity at this moment to increase the need for visitation, but also to reach the destinations of economic development of areas, especially rural areas”, says Shkëlqim Guçe, Tourism and Cultural Heritage specialist.
In some cases, these signs are damaged, while the good orientation of tourists makes their maintenance necessary.
The structures of cultural heritage have prepared a plan of measures for the renewal of the informative and orienting signage for tourists, which includes not only the museum area of Gjirokastra but also the surroundings. Since the beginning of the year, Gjirokastra has been visited by more than 400 thousand local and foreign tourists, becoming one of the main centers for promoting and developing tourism in Albania.
