A woman lost her life on Tuesday as a result of an avalanche at the Ski Center in Brezovica, in the south of Kosovo.

The news was announced to Radio Free Europe by the Police spokesperson for the Ferizaj region, Kanun Veseli.

He announced that the victim is a 54-year-old foreign citizen.

“It is suspected that the cause of this incident was the slide of a snow avalanche. Police teams and rescue teams are there and we will notify you in time for other information,” said Veseli.

The Kosovo Mountain Search and Rescue Service said it had received a call on Tuesday afternoon for help in the area called “Eagle’s Nest” in the ski center, which is known as a dangerous area from avalanches.

“The first information was about the loss of two skiers in the fog, but after collecting the information, the problem was identified and we started searching the suspicious area,” this service wrote on Facebook.

The rescue teams had given the first medical aid to the victim at the scene, but they had not managed to keep her alive.

“After the evacuation of the body by the medical teams, the death of the skier, a foreign citizen, was verified”, said this service.

The service called for extra care when skiing off-piste due to poor weather conditions.
