The head of the Socialist Party’s parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, declared during today’s plenary session that as soon as the new parliament is constituted, work will convene on reforming the electoral system.

He mentioned “open lists” and “the votes of immigrants” as two of the pressing issues that need to be addressed with the new electoral law.

He said that the reform will consider the decision of the Constitutional Court and include the part referring to the depoliticization of the electoral administration.

According to Balla, the reform will come to life without waiting for the Democratic Party to agree, adding that “April 25 were the last elections taking place without the vote of the immigrants”.

The head of SP’s parliamentary group also spoke over the arrest of Lushnje mayor and stressed that the Socialists “do not cover for anyone, be that MPs, ministers or mayor”.

Also, he said that the “future legislative will undergo constitutional changes, and continue with the justice reform” and warned of intervening in the Constitution to extend the mandate of the Independent Qualification Commission.
