Analyst Andi Bushati says that Altin Dumani was not expected to be elected as the new head of SPAK, based on the information he had.
In an interview for Euronews Albania, Bushati said that sources from within the Supreme Prosecution Council (SPC) told him that something changed the moment the US ambassador, Yuri Kim, arrived before the vote for the new head of the Special Prosecutor’s Office.
“No, in fact, based on all the information I had, it was expected that to put it in the vernacular as it has been commented on these days, everyone expected that the one who was preferred by the majority, the government and Edi Rama, would win, not the favorite of ambassador Kim for whom she fought for continuously.
Based on sources that I had inside the KLP, I was told, I don’t know how reliable this could be, but I was told that something changed the moment the US ambassador went there herself, before the vote. The comment I got from the people who were there was, half of them had their faces change immediately. So, it could have been a point that changed the flow of events”, he emphasized.
Altin Dumani has been elected as the new head of SPAK. Dumani got 5 votes, meanwhile, Edvin Kondili got 4 votes and Adnan Xholi, 1 vote.
1 of the 11 KLP members who voted for the election of the new SPAK head was missing from the hall. Dumani, who will take the place of Arben Kraja as of Monday, December 19, will be in charge of SPAK for the next 3 years.
