Starting from January 1, 2024, citizens of Kosovo will be able to travel without visas to the countries of the Schengen area, with the exception of one of them.

Spain, a country that does not recognize Kosovo’s independence, will not allow its citizens to enter in the Span territory because it does not recognize their passports.

The news was announced by the spokeswoman of the European Commission for Internal Affairs, Anitta Hipper. Asked if the citizens of Kosovo will be able to travel to Spain, she did not specifically mention this country, but said that the liberalization will not apply to “one country”.

“Recognition of travel documents is a state competence. But visa liberalization for Kosovo will enable Kosovo passport holders to travel without visas to all these countries, with the exception of one of them”, said Anitta Hipper, spokeswoman for the European Commission.

On July 1, 2023, Spain will take the next Presidency of the European Union. For Kosovo, this state has been against the recognition of citizenship, but during the visa approval process it has not objected. On April 18, the European Parliament approved the decision on visas, while the document was signed on April 19.
