SPAK (The Special Prosecution Against Corruption and Organized Crime) has ordered the arrest of the Prosecutor of Kukes, Edmond Kariqi.

Together with Mr. Kariqi, law enforcement officers have also detained his personal driver, Isuf Gega, as well as two other individuals, who are being accused of committing the crime of “passive corruption of judges, prosecutors or other functionaries of the justice system,” in collaboration.

Sources close to SPAK have also reported that the four detainees, including the prosecutor, are being accused of alleged favoritism toward felons, in exchange for various sums of money.

Likewise, with the order and warrants released by the Special Prosecution, police officers have conducted searches in the residences of the suspects.

Edmond Kariqi was been a prosecutor in the Prosecution of Kavaja until 2019, and later he was appointed in the city of Lushnja, to then finally move to the city of Kukes, where he was designated as Chief Commander by the High Prosecution Council.
