Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime has left in force the measure of arrest with prison for Jamarbër Malltezi and obligation to appear for Fatmir Bektashi.

Jamarbër Malltezi’s lawyers, Antoneta Sevdari and Klodian Skenderi, have asked the court to revoke the security measure because, according to them, the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecution has made a wrong interpretation of the evidence because the change of by-laws that took place by the government at that time did not happen to favor Jamarbër Malltez, but a number of former owners and not only of the former Partizani complex, but also other claimants of various properties in the territory of Albania.

This request was not taken into account by the judge Irena Gjoka, who upheld the decision made a few days ago, Jamarbër Malltezi’s prison sentence, while the businessman Fatmir Bektashi refused to speak to the media after he came out from the session.

A day ago Special Court imposed preventive seizure of real estate, bank accounts and shares owned by Jamarbër Malltezi.

Jamarbër Malltezi, the son-in-law of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, was arrested by order of Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor, after report made by Ministry of Interior Taulant Balla in 2020, about the privatization of the former sports club “Partizani”.

Fatmir Bektashi, partner with Jamarbër Malltezi and builder of the towers in the former Partizani complex, was also arrested. In the meantime, the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime has imposed an obligation to appear and a ban on leaving the country for former Prime Minister Sali Berisha on the charge of passive corruption committed in cooperation.

Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime has scheduled to interrogate the former Prime Minister of Albania, Sali Berisha.

According to the announcement of the Special Court, the court session will be held on Tuesday at 14:00.

“The Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime, on 24.10.2023, Tuesday, at 14:00 p.m., has scheduled the hearing of the questioning of the person under investigation, Sali Berisha, based on Article 248 point 1 to the K.Pr.Penale”, says the announcement.
