The former Minister of Health Ilir Beqaj has reacted for the first time regarding the sterilization concession file, for which former Deputy Minister Klodian Rjepaj and sterilization businessman Ilir Rrapaj were arrested by order of Special Anti-Corruption Structure.
In the reaction published on his Facebook page, Beqaj argues why he signed the concession, acknowledges acquaintances with businessmen Ilir Rrapaj and his partner Umbro Staccini, who are owners of the companies “Investital and Servizi Ytalia, Tecnosanimed and U.jet and administrator Admir Daci, of the temporary union Saniservice sh.p.k.
The former minister Beqaj says that the public-private partnership contract for sterilization has caused hospital infection to decrease significantly in the surgery rooms of public Albanian hospitals and the length of stay of a patient in the hospital to decrease by at least 1.8 days.
“The contract requires a private operator that for all operating theaters in Albania where about 430 surgeons serve every day, a set of surgical instruments customized according to that class and type of surgical intervention STERILË, a set of disposable dressings of the type TNT for the operating bed and the medical team, the disinfection of the operating room and the treatment of hazardous waste that is created by the clothing used and their processing into non-hazardous urban waste. A single operator is given to have only one RESPONSIBILITY for the risk of nosocomial infection. The successful implementation of this contract over the years has led to a significant decrease in hospital infection in the surgery rooms of public Albanian hospitals and a reduction of at least 1.8 days of a patient’s stay in the hospital. It is not only the central office of QSUT, but a network of central offices that has that of QSUT as primary. The contract has supplied the entire Albanian surgery with more than 100 thousand new and modern surgical instruments”, writes Beqaj among other things.
Meanwhile, the judge of the Special Court for Corruption and Organized Crime directed the Special Prosecutor’s Office to extend the investigations to the responsibilities of 6 other persons; for the former Minister of Health Ilir Beqaj, the former Minister of Finance Shkëlqim Cani, as well as for four procurement commissioners.
