The State Election Commissioner Ilirjan Celibashi called on political parties to make the necessary adjustment prior to entering the elections on the 25 of April.
“Before it is too late, each of us, including the Central Election Commission, but this call is mainly for political subjects, coalitions, candidates and public institutions, whatever needs to be corrected must be done so that these elections are within all standards”, said the state commission during a press conference with reporters.
He conveyed a strong message to political actors telling them that “everyone is being monitored”.
“We are all being watched and monitored. At the end of the day, you will all be judged. A call to candidates to conduct a peaceful and fair campaign and create facilitations for the voters. They should learn their alternatives and decide freely over their political preferences”, he concluded.
His declaration came one day after the Electoral College decided on having ballot papers with digits, and not with the names of the candidates.
The State Commissioner did not comment on the ballot paper in terms of the counting process and whether the new format will facilitate or make the vote counter’s job harder.
For Euronews Albania’s reporter Ardit Hoxha, he said that now that the model of the ballot paper is official, the media should cooperate to convey clear information on how it should be completed.
“I will not make any judgements over which of the options is best. This is not the official ballot paper and all of us, I hereby invite you as the media, to convey the messages of the CEC on how to complete the ballot paper”, said Celibashi.
