The Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, describes the situation in the Western Balkans as fragile.
In a meeting with the Prime Minister of Montenegro, the head of NATO said that the region has a special importance for the alliance and that the developments in the region are constantly being assembled.
Speaking about the event in Banjska, Stoltenberg said that after the violence, 1,000 alliance forces were sent and the situation is being assessed for sending other forces.
“Stability in the region remains fragile. The violence that erupted last year in Kosovo was unacceptable. And NATO responded quickly, deploying 1,000 additional troops… we are constantly evaluating any need for further presence,” said Stoltenberg.
He also said that the alliance is evaluating the possibility of sending additional troops to Kosovo.
The head of NATO also spoke about the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia. According to him, the situation between the two states can only be resolved by continuing the talks.
