Summer Day celebrated in Korça city

The Orthodox believers of Korça celebrated the summer day yesterday evening even in difficult atmospheric conditions due to the rain. On this occasion, young people lit fires as a symbol of this day.

Residents say that the lighting of fires indicates the end of the winter season and the arrival of spring.

“These are pagan holidays that have been preserved for centuries. This is how we found them, this is how we are broadcasting them. It shows the passing of winter, spring is coming, blood and time are changing,” said an elderly.

On Summer’s Day, Orthodox believers prepare their traditional dishes and set the summer season. Summer’s Day is celebrated for Orthodox believers on this day because of the Gregorian calendar. All the Orthodox believers of the southeast of the country celebrated the Summer Day holiday.
