Within the framework of the Berlin Process summit that is being held in Tirana, the agreement was signed between the leaders of the Western Balkans, for the recognition of the professional qualifications of nurses, veterinarians, pharmacists and midwives in the context of the Central European Free Trade Agreement, (CEFTA ).
Last year doctors, dentists and architects were recognized.
The Summit of the Berlin Process was held in Tirana today, for the first time in a country outside the European Union. The summit gathered for the first time in a capital of the Western Balkans the highest EU and regional leaders.
Prime Minister Edi Rama, positioned in the center of the two European leaders Von der Leyen and Scholz at the joint conference, said that the Summit of the Berlin process held for the first time in Tirana has ended in a very positive way.
Rama expressed his great gratitude to them, stressing that in these difficult times for the continent, the friendship and cooperation between the countries has deepened.
“I am grateful to God and the EU for making sure that this day started with beautiful sunshine and ended with a nice breeze. The summit ended with very important discussions, with really open exchanges and a real sense of friendship.
I would never be able to find the right words to thank the chancellor who was so graciously open to bringing the process to Tirana, and I would never find the necessary words to thank the President of the Commission for the EU plan for the Western Balkans. This is a difficult moment for everyone because of successive crises for all of us.
At the same time, our friendship, our cooperation and thanks to the leadership of the EU have been forged. What has happened has been used to look with great confidence in the Western Balkans. These two Germans next to me have schedules, deadlines, planes to catch and things to do, so I don’t want to take up their time because it does not happen every day that we have the honor to welcome them.
I am sure that what they will say is more important than what I will say, I am ready for questions if they are addressed to me. Chancellors, accept my expression of gratitude for everything you are doing for us, you are an impressive power that insists on pushing the EU and Wester Balkans to be closer to each other”, said Rama.
The President of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, during her speech at the joint conference with Prime Minister Edi Rama and German Chancellor Oal Scholz, was also asked about the issue of immigration.
She said that this topic was not in the focus of the Summit’s discussions, but said that the European Union will work closely with the Western Balkans to strengthen borders and accurately register borders.
“There were limited discussions about immigration. It was not the focus of our discussions and we definitely had a look with the EU about the migration routes through the Western Balkans. I can say that the first issue if we see it from the EU is to have our internal rules addressed and that is to complete the pact of asylum and refugees but we are on a path as we have agreed on the management of the crisis.
We are working closely with the Western Balkans on measures such as strengthening the borders to have agreements with some, an accurate registration of refugees and visa policies are also important. European agencies are trying their best. As for the legal ways, we are including the Western Balkans through the management of immigration for the external borders”, said Von der Leyen.
