Tensions and clashes with police, opposition protest ends after three hours

Today’s plenary session was accompanied by tensions and clashes, both inside the Assembly and outside.

Citizens participating in the protest called by “Re-establishment” clashed with the Police in front of the Parliament. Protesters chanting “Rama go” have thrown canisters and tried to pass the police cordon to enter the Parliament.

There was also a clash between the opposition MPs and the employees of the Guard of the Republic, as some democratic legislators were not allowed to enter the Parliament.

After the rally in front of the Parliament, the protesters headed to the street below the house of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha.

The leader of the Democratic Party group, Gazment Bardhi, was present among the protesters, who is the first time to join the citizens below Berisha’s apartment.

Earlier, opposition warned of the escalation of their opposition action, on the grounds that their parliamentary rights are being violated by the majority. The former Prime Minister Sali Berisha has warned a little before that a large protest will be held on February 20.

Berisha made the news known in his speech before the supporters gathered below his apartment, after protesting for several minutes in front of the Parliament. The February 20 protest coincides with the anniversary of the bust of dictator Enver Hoxha.
