The Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, called for calming the situation between Kosovo and Serbia.

This invitation of the leader of the Euro-Atlantic alliance comes as a result of the further tightening of relations between Kosovo and Serbia after the Serbian forces kidnapped three Kosovo policemen.

During a statement to the media at the end of the meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Stoltenberg declared that NATO’s commitment to fulfilling the mandate of the United Nations in Kosovo is unwavering.

“We also discussed the situation in Kosovo. NATO’s commitment to our United Nations mandate is unwavering. Our forces, the NATO mission in Kosovo, KFOR, will continue to take all necessary measures to ensure a safe environment and freedom of movement for all communities in Kosovo,” said Stoltenberg.

He also asked Pristina and Belgrade not to take any steps that could lead to an escalation of the situation and invited them to return to the dialogue for the normalization of relations mediated by the European Union.

The EU invited both sides to an emergency crisis management meeting, but the date has not been set because Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic have not confirmed their participation.
