The chief of the National Institute of Public Healthcare, Naser Ramadani, declared that the samples sent to a laboratory to see over a potential water contamination incident after over 800 citizens fell sick came back as negative and that the water was within European standards.

“We immediately took 6 water samples from Prilep, Irzniç, Gramaqel, Gllogjan, Baballoç, Rastavica that were sent to the microbiology lab at the Regional Institution of Peja. The samples were sent for chemical analysis and came back that there were within the allowed limits in accordance with the defined parameters “, he said.

Ramadani added that another lab research is being conducted, with the final results expected within the next 48 hours.

After speaking to citizens that complained of health issues, Ramadani noted that not all family members, although drinking the same water, displayed similar symptoms.

Over 800 citizens reportedly fell ill due to contaminated water in Deçan, a town in Kosovo, while according to the mayor, Bashkim Ramosaj, there might be foul play.

Health authorities reported that more than 884 citizens have shown up since Friday to receive medical treatment at the town’s health clinic.

“We will not stop until we have the reasons why this poisoning occurred, if we may call it that”, declared Ramosaj.

The mayor of Decan also declared that this is the second time within this month that a similar occurrence takes place, which is exactly why authorities fear it might be intentional.

Bashkim Ramosaj pressed on the prosecution to immediately probe into the case and warned that punitive measures will also be taken against the water supply company, in case it is proven that the citizens were indeed poisoned by the water.
