The first passenger plane departed from ‘Mother Theresa’ airport in Tirana, towards Kukes at around 15:00 p.m. this Sunday afternoon and has now arrived at the Kukes áirport.
Coming from its first destination being London UK, the ‘Air Albania’ plane landed shortly in Tirana’s Rinas airport and finally took off for Kukes’s Zayed airport, with PM Edi Rama also on board.
According to authorities, the 2200 m runway is finished whereas the parking area is projected to provide space for 3 airplanes simultaneously.
The international airport of Kukes is the second civil airport in Albania after the one in Rinas.
In an interview for Euronews Albania only a few days ago, the director of the Airport of Kukes, Altin Progonati said that work on this airport is close to an end, as it is expected to be fully functional and open for all international airlines by May 20th.
Progonati emphasized the fact that the Kukes ‘Zayed’ airport is conceptualized as a ‘low cost’ airport operating with the lowest and most competitive prices in the entire region.
