The Greek Foreign Ministry has reacted through a statement on its official website regarding the decision to continue Fredi Beleri’s detention.
“The extension of the detention of Fredi Beleri, already elected Mayor of Himara Municipality, offends the sense of justice of the public and the European perception of the rule of law”, – it is said in the statement of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Special Court Against Organized Crime and Corruption has set the security measure “Arrest with prison” for Fredi Beleri and his associate Pandeli Kokaveshi.
Judge Atalanta Zeqiri, in the decision made in the Counseling Chamber, decided to accept the request of the Special Prosecution, that Fredi Beleri be tried in prison for the charge of vote buying.
At the end of the hearing, Beleri’s lawyer described the decision as not based on evidence, since according to him, Beleri had no contact with the police infiltrator.
