Through a post on their social media account, the US embassy in Albania has stated that the US supports all efforts made by Albanian prosecutors to strengthen the rule of law and democratic institutions in our country.
“Albania’s prosecutors are on the front line in the fight against corruption, organized crime, money laundering, and narco-trafficking. The U.S. Embassy supports their efforts to advance justice reform, fortify the rule of law and further strengthen democratic institutions,” said the post made by the US embassy.
In addition, the embassy has also notified the donation of equipment in support of the investigative capacity of the Office of the General Prosecutor.
“This week, International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs program (INL) Director Ben Rockwell and Resident Legal Advisor Michelle Lakomy discussed U.S. support with General Prosecutor Olsian Çela. The Embassy signed over equipment in support of the General Prosecutor’s Office investigative capacity and achieve these goals essential for Albania’s progress toward full European integration,” states the embassy’s post.
Yesterday, the US ambassador to Albania, Yuri Kim stated that courage and integrity should be shown throughout the whole vetting process in the justice system so that the old models in Albania can be eradicated.
This declaration by the US ambassador came after the appeal of the ONM over the confirmation of new prosecutor Elisabeta Imeraj in office.
