US ambassador, Yuri Kim, spoke to the press, shortly before the vote for the new head of SPAK.

Kim stated that there are many conspiracy theories being spread around regarding the election of the new head of this institution, but clarified that she was present at the KLP meeting, to show that this is a very important moment for justice reform.

She also underlined that the US has no secret message regarding this process and that she did not come to tell anyone which of the prosecutors to vote for.

“I see that there are many conspiracy theories circulating around, so I wanted to explain myself, I want to explain why I came. This is an important moment for the justice reform and for SPAK. I came to say exactly that, to emphasize that this is an important moment. I came to say, what is important for this transition is the integrity of the process. I’m not here to tell anyone who they should vote for and who they shouldn’t vote for. There is no hidden message, the USA has always been direct with the Albanian people. Also, you know I’m not one to take things lightly. I say what I mean, I mean what I say, and I represent US policy. The US priority remains that justice reform is fully implemented. A lot of progress has been made and a lot of people deserve credit for that, starting with the government. The credit also goes to the opposition, the critics who keep the government honest, because this is their job,” she emphasized.

Adnan Xholi, Altin Dumani and Edvin Kondili are in the race for the head of SPAK, where one of them will be elected today.
