Three arrested in North Macedonia for fighting alongside Islamic State in Syria

The Ministry of Internal Affairs in North Macedonia announced that three citizens have been arrested for active partaking in the war in Syria, as “members of the Islamic State”.

The three arrested persons “have been the object of interest of the security services” and were captured in the frameworks of the global fight against terrorism.

Two of them were arrested in North Macedonia and the other one in France, according to a Macedonian arrest warrant, as a result of the cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Security Agency with the French authorities.

According to the police, the arrested O.S. (28 years old), R.S. (33 years old) and M.G. (26 years old), joined the armed forces of the Islamic State militant organization in the territory of Syria and actively participated in military operations.

Police raided two locations in Skopje, where a number of guns, ammunitions, cellphones and other electronic devices were confiscated, possibly containing evidence on their acts.
