Prime Minister Edi Rama has responded to the government’s decision to ban access to TikTok in Albania.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Rama stated that the one-year suspension of the platform was made following extensive consultations with 65,000 parents.

Rama also noted that the Albanian government is in discussions with TikTok’s parent company, which is expected to visit Albania soon to present a series of measures aimed at increasing child safety on the platform.

“The decision for the temporary closure of TikTok was, first and foremost, made after broad consultations with 65,000 parents and teachers. Secondly, it was taken after ensuring the necessary technical capabilities were in place. Meanwhile, we are engaged in a highly positive dialogue with the company, which will soon visit Albania to present both a set of security measures for children—including in the Albanian language—and several innovations to support education and learning.

We say what we do and do what we say,” Rama wrote on X.
