Tirana Celebrates Kosovo’s Independence Day: Giant Flag Waves in the Capital

As Kosovo marks its 17th anniversary of independence, Tirana has been adorned with the symbolic colors of Europe’s newest state.

In a show of solidarity and brotherhood between the two nations, a giant Kosovo flag was unfurled in Mother Teresa Square, creating a festive and emotional atmosphere for this significant day.

The blue flag, featuring Kosovo’s golden map and six stars representing its communities, was placed in one of Tirana’s most visited areas, drawing the attention of citizens.

Many Kosovar Albanians celebrated Independence Day in Albania, stating that for them, there is no difference between the two countries, as “Albania and Kosovo are one.”

Meanwhile, Albanian and foreign leaders extended congratulatory messages to Kosovo, reaffirming support for its recognition and membership in all regional and international organizations, including the United Nations.

Currently, Kosovo is recognized by 117 countries worldwide.

The country is also a member of several international organizations, including:

  • The World Bank
  • The International Monetary Fund
  • The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development
  • The International Olympic Committee
  • The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA)
  • The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA)
