The number of new schools built in the last 10 years will be over 50. During the hearing on the 2025 budget, the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, presented the main investment projects for the coming year, emphasizing construction of new schools, centers for children on the autistic spectrum and those for the elderly.
The Mayor announced the construction of several new schools in key areas of the capital, including the “Rilindja” neighborhood in Astir, Sauk and the Dry Lake area.
“I believe we have done enough, we have made over 100 playgrounds, 101 gardens and nurseries where organic food is eaten. So a super revolution. We did the same at Piramida, where the courses are paid for by the Municipality of Tirana. So, you will learn the trades of modern times, with coding, with artificial intelligence, the municipality will pay. We have done the same with schools. We have 45 new schools. Now we will start 5 schools only in the “Rilindja” neighborhood area, in Astir, Unaza e Madhe. We will start 2 new schools in Sauk at the Arab Hospital and the Police Academy. We will start two more, one at Dry Lake and one at the Olympic Park, and I say that even here we will be remembered as the administration that left over 50 new schools to the municipality,” he said.
Another project is the construction of the Children’s Center for the autistic spectrum and down syndrome in Unit 2. Mayor Veliaj described this project as the largest of its kind in the Balkans.
“One of the most beautiful things we will do in this budget, since we are in Unit 2, the former “Pellumbat” center of the American Embassy, has been transferred as property to the Municipality of Tirana. We will make the largest day center for children of the autistic spectrum in the Balkans. At the beginning of the year we will have the competition for the architecture of the Children’s Center for Autism Spectrum and Down Syndrome. I hope that we will build it in record time for all children, but especially for parents who make two sacrifices, both after the child and to keep the house, give them an extraordinary facility and turn it into the best center of excellence these social services throughout the Balkans”, he declared.
The municipality of Tirana will also build social centers for the elderly in the peripheral areas, namely in Vaqarr and Zall-Herr.
“For the first time we will bring new community centers to Vaqarr and Zall – Herr. There are two areas that are significant in number, over 10-15 thousand inhabitants. In this sense, the first 2 peripheral areas where we will bring the service of community centers will be Zall-Herr and Vaqarr”, added Veliaj.
