Tirana has been selected, among many applicants from around the world, as one of the 10 grant recipient cities of Bloomberg Philanthropies Cycling Infrastructure Grant.

Investments in improving infrastructure, particularly in enhancing safety for pedestrians and cyclists, have brought international attention to Tirana.

Bloomberg Philanthropies announced the first winners of the Bloomberg Initiative for Global Road Safety’s Cycling Infrastructure Initiative, with ten global cities receiving support to build innovative cycling infrastructure and sustainable mobility options for their residents.

Alongside Tirana, where the construction of a cycling network for all age groups will be supported through the implementation of safe intersection design, beneficiaries also include Milan in Italy and Lisbon in Portugal.

The aim of this initiative is to assist cities in designing roads that increase bicycle usage, rejuvenate neighborhoods, and promote the health and well-being of their communities.

In addition to funding, Tirana will receive technical assistance for project design and development. Launched in 2014, the mission of the Global Designing Cities Initiative is to transform streets worldwide.
