February has further clarified the positive outlook of tourism being widely anticipated by tour operators in Albania.
Foreign entries marked a 55.4% increase in the second month of the year compared to the same period a year ago according to official statistics from the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT).
According to the publication, the entries of Albanian and foreign citizens into Albanian territory in February 2024 were 981,295. This figure represents a 41.1% increase compared to February 2023. The exits of Albanian and foreign citizens from Albanian territory during February 2024 were 1,002,781, marking a 44.7% increase compared to the same period a year ago.
“In February 2024, the number of Albanian citizens entering Albanian territory was 500,756. This number increased by 29.8% compared to February 2023. The number of foreign citizens entering Albanian territory was 480,539. This number increased by 55.4% compared to the same period in 2023,” INSTAT evaluates.
Regarding the exits of Albanian citizens from Albanian territory during February 2024, there were 507,095.
“Compared to February 2023, this figure increased by 30.1%. The exits of foreign citizens from Albanian territory during February 2024 were 495,686. Compared to the same period a year ago, this figure increased by 63.4%,” the publication states.
According to INSTAT, in February 2024, the region with the highest number of entries of foreign citizens in Albania was the European region with 459,700 citizens, followed by America and East Asia and the Pacific, with 8,147 and 2,979 citizens respectively.
Regarding the reasons during February 2024, there was an increase in the entries of foreign citizens for personal purposes by 55.4%; for vacation purposes, visiting relatives, etc. by 56.9%; for business and professional purposes by 53.9%.
The tourism sector is expected to achieve another record this year, which according to tour operators is primarily linked to an echo inherited from last year, intensive promotion in international media continuing this year, increased participation in organized markets, and the fact that Albania is still an affordable destination.
