In this autumn period, the city of Gjirokastra and its surroundings continues are being visited by a high number of tourists, mostly foreigners.
Since the beginning of September, Gjirokastra has welcomed about 17 thousand tourists from different countries of the world, bringing the number of local and foreign visitors to over 350 thousand this year.
The most favorite points of the guide for tourists remain the characteristic Bazaar, the castle and the museum houses.
“We arrived in Gjirokastra this morning from Greece. We first visited Greece and then arrived here. We saw this castle on the Internet and we are interested in visiting it” – said the tourist.
“The first stop of our journey is this wonderful and magnificent fort, and we immediately came here to see it. After we finish the walk in the castle we will also look at the city. I believe we will continue to stay to see what is offered more to see” – adds another tourist.
For the month of September, accommodation facilities, hotels and guesthouses are all booked with about 1,700 beds, while for October this booking is about 80%
“In the month of September, as far as I know, all the accommodation facilities, at least part of the hotels, are almost closed, and this is also for the month of October, so far the reservations for the month of October are at around 80 percent capacity. We hope that in this big wave that came we have done the best possible, we have given good impressions to the visitors who passed by to have expectations for the coming year” – emphasized Maksim Hoxha, president of the Chamber of Commerce in Gjirokastra.
This year, Gjirokastra is registering the highest number of local and foreign visitors, while tourism has become the priority sector for the development of the local economy.
