The visit of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Albania and Serbia confirms the influence that Turkey wants to extend to the Western Balkans.

In Albania, he expressed interest in the continuation of investments and the expansion of trade, which during the last years has grown significantly with figures that have placed the Turkish state in the top list of countries that are feeding our economy.

Thus, during the last 5 years, trade exchanges have increased by about 70%, reaching 900 billion dollars, and the ambition is for them to reach 2 billion dollars. Companies with Turkish capital have also increased in the country, opening over 15 thousand jobs.

On the other hand, the pace of growth in Serbia has been fast, after the visit of President Erdogan to Belgrade in 201. Since then, trade has increased by 150% and the number of operating firms has almost 5-folded.

Turkey supplies both countries in bulk with iron, steel, machinery and plastics. Meanwhile, Serbia supplies tires and electrical equipment, while Albania supplies copper, aluminum and plant seeds.

In the language of numbers, it is difficult to say whether Erdogan would choose between Rama or Vučić, but nevertheless he has exerted influence on us, for the spread of Muslim education and religious faith, an influence that he could not spread among Orthodox Serbs. Even in weapons technology, supplies are open to both countries, but time will tell if it has chosen to empower one or the other country.
