Ukraine, as of today, has two additional compatriots from the Albanian diaspora who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the ongoing conflict.

The somber news was conveyed by Socialist deputy Pandeli Majko, who shared on social media, “Albania’s Consul in Ukraine Omarov Shakhin has just informed me of a sorrowful development. Starting today, Ukraine has two new heroes hailing from the Albanian diaspora, who served as soldiers in the Ukrainian army and tragically lost their lives while dutifully serving.

These two individuals are as follows: Dermentli Anatoly, originally from the Albanian village of Karakurt in the Odessa region, born on September 3, 1980. He was called to duty in Mechanized Brigade No. 118 in the Zaporizhzhia region and bravely sacrificed his life on October 15 during a combat mission.

The other hero, Haydarzhy Danylo, was born into an Albanian family on January 26, 2002, in the village of Georgivka, located in the Zaporizhzhia region. He was the second child in his family, who presently reside in an area occupied by Russian forces. At the commencement of the conflict, he was in Poland. During the summer of 2022, he volunteered for military service but was initially turned down due to his age. In 2023, following his 21st birthday, he reapplied and willingly served in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. He was a member of military unit A290 and tragically lost his life in the combat zone, specifically in the village of Liman, near the city of Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region,” Majko pointed out.

“Yesterday, funeral ceremonies were held in the city of Zaporizhzhia for these two Albanian compatriots. Looking at their personal photos, it is evident that they held their Albanian heritage close to their hearts,” Majko expressed.

“In the poignant burial ceremony, the Albanian national flag was placed alongside the Ukrainian flag. May their memory live on eternally!” Majko concluded.
