Two people have died in Zagreb, Croatia, and another person in Bled, Slovenia, as a result of storms that hit these countries on Wednesday afternoon.

Lupka Hitrova from the Institute of Emergency Medicine Training in Zagreb said that the two victims – both men – died due to collapsed trees.

“They suffered multiple head injuries,” said Hitrova.

Eight people were injured, but there were no children among them.

Slovenian authorities said that the victim in Bled suffered the same fate – due to a collapsed tree.

According to Croatian authorities, emergency services received 700 calls, and only firefighters intervened in 50 cases.

The Mayor of Zagreb, Tomislav Tomašević, called on citizens to only call emergency services in urgent cases, as the lines were blocked.

The storm, accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds, started around 4:00 PM and lasted for about 20 minutes.
