The Shkodra Police has reported the successful rescue of two French tourists after an exhaustive eight-hour search. The tourists had become stranded in a treacherous mountainous region in northern Albania, with one of them facing health complications.

According to the official police statement, the Shkodra Police operational room received a distress call around 7:00 PM, alerting them to the predicament of the two French tourists trapped near the Cuti river in a particularly rugged terrain. The report indicated that one of the tourists was suffering from health issues, specifically a high fever. Responding to the notification, the alpine police units from Shkodra’s Rapid Intervention Forces were dispatched to the designated location. These specialized units are trained and equipped to provide aid to individuals, including tourists, who find themselves stranded in challenging mountainous areas during their expeditions.

Employing their specialized skills, and with the assistance of local residents, the alpine police team successfully located the tourists around midnight. The duo was escorted to a more accessible area using a police vehicle, and subsequently transported to Shkodra Hospital in the same vehicle. The individual with health complications continues to receive medical attention at Shkodra Hospital and is no longer in life-threatening condition.

The Alpine Police team encourages any citizens or tourists in need of assistance related to the unit’s functional responsibilities to seek help, reassuring them of an immediate and specialized response.

Additionally, the Minister of Interior, Taulant Balla, welcomed the operation and called on every citizen or tourist in need to seek assistance, as the Police are available and specialized intervention will be immediate.
