U.S. Embassy: We will engage with the Anticorruption Commission

The Embassy of the United States of America in Tirana has announced that it will engage with the ad hoc Commission for good governance, anti-corruption and the rule of law.

Through an announcement on the social network X of the embassy, ​​it is known that the expectations of the USA are that the work of the commission is comprehensive and transparent, complies with the constitution, protects the independence of the institutions and improves the future of Albania.

“As a steadfast partner of Albania’s efforts to advance the reforms necessary for EU membership, the US Embassy will engage with the ad hoc committee on good governance, anti-corruption and the rule of law. Our expectations are that the work of the commission will be comprehensive and transparent, comply with the constitution, protect the independence of the institutions and improve the future of Albania”, the announcement of the US embassy says.

The Anticorruption Commission was voted in the Assembly only with the votes of the majority on May 30 of this year. This commission is led by the deputy of the SP Fatmir Xhafaj, as chairman and vice-chairmen of the Permanent Commissions: for Legal Affairs, Public Administration and Human Rights (2); for Economy and Finance (2); for European Affairs (2); for Education and Public Information Means (2); and the National Council of European Integration (2).

Earlier, Prime Minister Edi Rama rejected the accusations that this commission is an attempt to seize the reform in justice, while he emphasized that the country needs a new wave of reforms to advance the integration process.
