The teams of Tirana and Beşiktaş may face sanctions from UEFA due to the incidents during the match played on August 3, in terms of Conference League qualifiers.

UEFA has opened an investigation to verify the cases of violence and the causes that led to the match starting more than 20 minutes late.

At the beginning of the match, fans of both teams were involved in a massive brawl. During the altercation, heavy objects were thrown onto the field, and a part of the stadium seats was damaged. Due to the use of pyrotechnic devices, the referee postponed the start of the match.

Incidents also occurred at the end of the game, which was won by the Turkish team with two goals against Tirana. Outside the stadium, fans clashed again, damaging a vehicle as well.

UEFA’s investigation could result in punishment not only for the Albanian and Turkish fans, by banning them from attending several matches, but also for the respective teams.

After the match, the Tirana Police arrested and took 14 individuals from both teams to the police station.

Some of them are facing criminal charges for violence and property damage.

Some of the fans taken into police custody were found to be in possession of weapons and pyrotechnic devices.
