Unemployment has dropped to 10.2% this year. Compared to last year, it has decreased by 1% and in a comparison of several years, there has been a gradual contraction.
Even compared to the region, the unemployment rate is among the lowest in the region, after Serbia, which registers a rate below 10%.
The development of the economy in the region seems to show the same trend in all countries in the Western Balkans, but this may not be the only reason why there are more jobs in relation to the population.
In the next year’s budget report, it is stated that “in accordance with the acceleration of economic activity, the average annual employment in the Western Balkans increased to 2.5%, while labor force participation also increased. In general, the unemployment rates in the region remained at the lowest historical levels, but comparatively higher than the EU countries.
So, in addition to economic growth, emigration also remains a factor. With nearly 35,000 people leaving every year, and a large part of them being of working age, the unemployment rate falls automatically.
