With unemployment rates at 11%, Albania leaves behind neighboring countries

Albania is among the countries with the lowest level of unemployment, in relation to neighboring countries. With 11% of people not working, it leaves behind North Macedonia, Kosovo and Montenegro where the unemployment rate reaches up to 18%.

In the first quarter of 2023, 160,900 people aged 15 to 64 were unemployed. Expressed as a percentage, the unemployment rate for active age was 10.9%, with a 0.4% improvement compared to 2022.

In terms of gender, the unemployment rate is higher among women, 11.1%, while among men it decreased to 10.6%.

Meanwhile, according to the working age structure, the unemployment rate for the 15-29 age group has deepened compared to last year.

22.5% of people in this group officially do not work, or at least do not have a salary declared in the tax register. Last year, they constituted 20.7% of the entire contingent.

As for the 30-64 age group, the unemployment rate is 7.8%.

In relation to the region, Albania comes after Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, while the highest level is recorded in Kosovo and Montenegro, where unemployment reaches up to 18%.
