Unspent funds from the 2025 state budget have been transferred to the Special Pension Fund. The amount is about €167 million, deposited in an account at the Bank of Albania.
The unspent budget money from ministries and public institutions during 2025 was moved into the Pension Fund’s special account at the Bank of Albania.
The Ministry of Finance says the transfer aims to strengthen the financial stability of the public pension scheme and improve its long-term management. Funds that are usually closed at the end of the fiscal year have, in this case, been directed toward a specific purpose: creating an additional reserve to cover future pension obligations.
Depositing the amount in a special account at the Bank of Albania ensures controlled administration, separating it from ordinary budget spending. In practical terms, this creates a dedicated reserve that can be used to support pension reform and meet future commitments without immediately increasing pressure on the annual budget.
The government emphasizes that pension reform will continue, with the goal of building a fairer, more sustainable, and more reliable system for citizens. In this context, strengthening financial reserves is considered a concrete step toward ensuring stable and secure payments for current and future pensioners.
