US appoints new deputy ambassador to Tirana

The Embassy of the United State in Albania introduced on Monday its new deputy chief of mission, Demian Smith.

Smith is a career diplomat and has also visited Albania for the first time as a tourist in 1997.

Previously, he served as deputy ambassador and Political & Economic Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Wellington, New Zealand.

He was also Chief of Staff to the Counselor of the State Department where he managed special diplomatic projects for Secretary of State John Kerry.

Smith speaks five languages, including Albanian and Serbian.

In his address to the country, Smith said to be looking forward to his new post and explore Albania, describing it as “our new home”.
