US embassy in Albania shares messages forwarded by Assistant Secretary of State, Philip Reeker

The US embassy in Albania has published details regarding today’s visit of the United States Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Philip Reeker, to Tirana.

According to the embassy, Mr. Reeker underlined the determination of President Joe Biden and the Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken in fighting the phenomena of corruption and organized crime.

Another central topic of discussion, which was given special attention to, was the U.S. military exercise ‘Defender Europe 21’ taking place in Albania.

Albania was also congratulated on the role it is playing in the region and on the global arena and something that was also highlighted was Albania’s recent appointment to become a part of the UN Security Council, starting in January.

The embassy also stated that the US is determined to support Albania in the fortification of the reforms within the local justice system as well as the war against corruption and organized crime.

According to him, progress in these issues will “promote democracy, defense and business in Albania, and continue Albania’s path towards EU accession.”

During his stay in Albania, the Assistant Secretary of State met with PM Edi Rama, the Chair of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha and other members of the justice system, who have fully passed the vetting process.
